Bernard Allen is currently freelancing in radio news and presentation around the Midlands area.
He began his career with Broadland 102 in Norwich before returning to his hometown of Chichester to help set up Spirit FM in 1996.
His career has included stints producing and presenting magazine programmes, fronting a breakfast show – as featured on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast – and bringing his unique humour and style to Drivetime.
As versatile at production as he is presenting, Bernard has researched, written and produced many special documentaries and features – some for TV – and is known as an accomplished live compere.
An award-winner since his students days with the University of East Anglia campus station, he’s scooped the Guardian/NUS Student Broadcast Media Award, the SRA/Radio 1 Student Radio Awards (Best News or Sports Programme), and Spirit FM’s first major award for Best Local Radio Gardening Feature from the National Garden Writer’s Guild.
In his spare time, Bernard writes fiction for broadcast. He has starred in Chichester Festival Theatre’s acclaimed production of The Barchester Chronicles, and his hobbies include orienteering, the tarot, and Web site design. |
