John O’Hara is considered the premiere voice-over artiste in Northern Ireland.
His career began at the tender age of eleven when he appeared as a child actor with BBC Northern Ireland’s Children’s Hour. During a short stint with the RAF in the late 60s he worked in drama and helped run the camp radio station. He joined Ulster Television as a junior announcer in the 70s and worked on several programmes including a highly successful children’s educational series, Hop, Skip and Jump.
Shortly after the first local Independent Radio statio opened its doors in 1976 John joined the staff of Downtown Radio and began to present what ultimately became one of the station’s most successful late night shows. His listenership was the highest in the whole of the UK for the particualr time of late night transmission.
Advertising agencies soon discovered the O’Hara voice and from the mid-70s it has been used extensively on a myriad of radio and television commercials. John O’Hara has voiced virtually every major ad campaign to have appeared in Northern Ireland. He is also used extensively in the South of Ireland.
His strength lies in the fact that his accent is neutral. |
