Tony Aitken was born in the Midlands and qualified as a Teacher of Art and Drama at St Mary’s University College. Since the 70s he has followed a career in Theatre, Film TV and Radio.
In Theatre from Repertory at Hornchurch to The West End in Billy at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane, from Fringe Theatre at Billingham to Seasons at the Bristol Old Vic.
He has worked regularly at BBC Radio for both Drama and Schools Broadcasting as an Actor and Presenter and can still do a range of animal noises second to none thanks to several years on Listen With Mother and Listening Corner!
As a TV actor he has featured in many series: The Dick Emery Show, Blackadder, Porridge, Open all Hours, End of Part One, Victoria Wood, Upstairs Downstairs, The Bill, The Mistress, Keeping Up Appearances, Eastenders, Joseys Giants, Jackanory, No. 73 and recently as Mr Hinds in Samson Superslug for Meridian, Jennifer Jekyl and Harriet Hyde for BBC, Caretaker in The Queens Nose BBC, was featured in the the last series of Sharpe, and the recent series for Carlton, "Barbara", "Doctors" and "Down to Earth" for BBCTV. He played Postmaster in the Merchant Ivory film "The Remains of the Day", and features in the new release "Anazapta."
Tony works regularly as a Voice Artist for many National Agency Campaigns, and also as a regular voice on ILR Stations nationwide, and has recently been successful as an Independent Producer working on music production, promotion and advertising campaigns in UK and Europe. Recently featured in the national TV campaigns for Jif, Northern Electric, Global Video, IBM, and many others.
