Tony Lyman is currently presenting programmes for Saga 106.6.
Many a boy cut his teeth in Hospital Radio and Tony is no exception. Working for Radio Nene Valley in Northampton gave him the opportunity to launch his career on an unsuspecting and rather poorly public!
His first taste of real radio was on board the M.V. Peace in Israel, which was a Top 40 radio station anchored about six miles off the coast of Tel Aviv and called The Voice of Peace.
After a brief career as a postman in Northampton, he joined Radio Trent in Nottingham to present Sounds Across Midnight. There then followed three years at Leicester Sound where Tony presented the Afternoon Show. Guests included Bonnie Langford, Les Dennis, Natasha Richardson, Hinge and Bracket, Sooty, a cow (yes), the Brook Bond chimps, and a knight in shining armour!
Tony then returned to Trent to present the mid-morning show for a year before joining GEM AM, an oldies station serving Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, where he hosted mornings and, ultimately, Breakfast.
Tony spent three years between 1993 and 1998 as a freelance continuity announcer for Central Television. |
