NICK COADY is The Voice Of Authority and is very well-known on UK TV & radio. He has over 20 years’ experience as a British professional voiceover artist, narrator and producer and has his own studios in the east of England.
Nick's enormous voice packs an awesome punch. At one end of the scale he gives a powerful script the ultimate in deep, biting energy. At the other end his warm, whispering, sensuous read always raises a few temperatures and pulse rates… He can sound friendly, reassuring and ‘corporate’, or un-nerve the listener with a cold, threatening, terse delivery.
He has worked for virtually all the UK's principal radio and TV stations, including BBC Radios 1 & 2, Virgin Radio, Classic FM, BBC1 TV, and the ITV Network. He is experienced in voicing to picture for TV and cinema commercials, and has been the deep, gravelly voice of countless movie trailers.
Nick is also a respected corporate voice and has narrated hundreds of audio-visual programmes and presentations for both the public and private sectors. He has been heard on thousands of interactive voice-prompts for company telephone systems and call centres. From staff training and point-of-sale videos, to medical CD-ROMs, scientific documentaries and even relaxation tapes... Nick has the calm, authoritative tone needed to get the message across.
In his own studios, Nick's characteristic big vocal sound is achieved with two recording-industry favourites: a Neumann U87 microphone and a Focusrite Red 7 mic preamp. Recording & editing is all done digitally on SADiE. Nick can either work live via ISDN (MUSICAM or G.722 - codec is a CCS Prima 120), or supply finished audio as WAV/AIF/mp3 files via e-mail & FTP, or mastered onto CD, DAT, or MiniDisc.
Nick was educated at St Joseph’s College Birkfield in his home town of Ipswich, Suffolk. He began his broadcasting career at Radio Orwell, spending eighteen months in airtime sales before joining the Commercial Production team to learn voicing, scripting and audio production techniques. He started at the bottom, learned the commercial radio business thoroughly, worked his way up, and eventually became the department manager. However, the desire to pursue a career as a freelance voice-artist grew stronger, so when the station was eventually bought out Nick left Radio Orwell and set out on his own.
He is married to Shirley, who is coincidentally his full-time PA. He loves animals and wildlife, motorcycling, photography, travel, aviation, politics, history, reading and technology. He drives a '92 Mustang, and holds a Private Pilot’s Licence.
