“Runaround” was a cult children’s TV programme hosted by comedian/actor Mike Reid and, allegedly, Leslie Crowther and Stan Boardman. It was conceived and directed by the brilliant Colin Nutley. It was broadcast on Southern TV from 1975-1981.
Jugg Music wrote the theme tune. They comprised; Nick Hug, Gethyn Jones and Brian Hug (hence Jugg Music!).
The recording featured here (licenced by Jugg Music) is a studio re-recording featuring such session musicians as John Mealing, Dave Mattocks, Andy Pask and Cliff Richard’s frequent guitarist – the name has gone – arggh.
Jugg Music wrote many theme tunes for Southern TV, TVS and Central TV – all as a result of their relationship with Director and Producer, Colin Nutley. They all grew up in the same town – Gosport, Hampshire, UK.
Other programmes: “Afloat”, “Challenge of the Sexes”, “Day-by-Day”, “The Flockton Flyer”, “Noah’s Castle”, “Anneka” and many more…
Their period of musical activity was from1973-1985. Colin Nutley, their chief commissioner, moved to Sweden where he subsequently became a celebrity in broadcasting and films and as a result their professional relationship dwindled.
Sadly, Nick Hug, a fine blues musician and composer died in 2006 of cancer.
